Career Overview:

  • Imaging Assistant - directly assists patients and technicians during procedures, and also provides clerical support including scheduling and image archiving.
  • Radiology Technologist - responsible for taking and processing x-ray film as dictated by physician.
  • Special Imaging Technologist - produces quality imaging studies for physicians to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of their patients. Includes Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Interventional Radiology (IR), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) , Mammography, Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Diagnostic Sonographer - produces two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs, using ultrasound equipment, for use by physician in diagnosis of disease and study of malfunction of organs.
  • Cardiac Sonographer (echo cardiographer) - operates ultrasound equipment that collects reflected echoes and Doppler signals from images and spectral tracings of the heart. They use two-dimensional images and Doppler tracings to assess the cardiac structures and hemodynamics.
  • Radiation Therapist - administer radiation treatment to patients.

  • Imaging Assistant - Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Radiology Technologist - Requires Associates Degree /ARRT registered (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).
  • Special Imaging Technologist - ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) and a specialized certification may be required.
  • Diagnostic Sonographer - Requires an Associates Degree/ RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer).
  • Cardiac Sonographer (echo cardiographer) - Requires Associates Degree /RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer).
  • Radiation Therapist - Completion of JRCERT approved course in Radiation Therapy and ARRT.
